In honor of National Poetry Month
My love, silence from you is killing me
like a deadly virus or a vicious enemy
Like TV with the mute on or a dead cell phone
No e-mail, no text, sweetheart… are we done?
From my eyes flow distrust and pain
While in this strange land, I can’t even sing
At least not the songs that I once knew
of undying love, pure and true
Now, I sing of loss, emptiness, and misery
All played in the key of melancholy
Deep within, I’m slowly dying,
it’s hard to breathe, but I keep trying.
A word from you could stop this pain in my chest
The sleepless nights and emotional unrest
Words uttered from your lips
could change this ride of long drops and dips
to smooth sailing in peace and bliss
Words typed from your hand
could change this dying soul into a young man again
With returned strength, vigor, and youth
Yes… simply by “A Word from You.”
